So, now that I cleaned up my Google Reader, and my “Tier 1″ folders is sitting pretty at ZERO, are there any feeds that you guys think I should add to my list?

Starting today, I’m going 30 days without alcohol.
Which makes the target end date August 1.
If you don’t think I can make it, I’m taking bets.
Felix was the first to sign up.
$100 dinner is on the line.
And to entice you to take this bet.
I have a lot of social functions coming up.
July 4th.
Cause for Drinks.
Behance and PSFK “We Like You” Party in SF.
The list goes on and on.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Why am I doing this?
I really want to see what I feel like without alcohol.
I’m imagining tons of energy, productivity, etc.
Instead of the drowsiness, being tired, depressed, hungover, etc.
If cutting out alcohol has more benefits than drinking, I think I’ll cut it down a lot.

2. Are you still going to go out?
Yes, I still plan on to go out to bars and meet new people.
I just won’t drink.
I’m imagining that I’ll probably go out to eat, exercise more, read more, etc.
I think life will be great if it doesn’t revolve around alcohol.

3. How will I know if you don’t sneak a drink?
Because I’m honest.
And because I’m not an alcoholic.
I don’t NEED to drink.
I just drink because it’s fun thing to do with my friends.
If I sneak a drink, everyone will know because it’ll be in public.
I’m not the “come home after work and crack open a beer” type of person.

4. Why make it into a bet?
Why not? I’m doing it more for myself but since so many people think it’s an impossible feat for me, why not make it into a bet.

So, there it is.
If you want to stay updated with progress, you can follow me on this blog and my twitter (http://twitter.com/mikekarnj)
I’ve never really used my twitter account but here’s a perfect reason to start.
If you want to jump in on the bet or even go 30 days without alcohol with me, drop me an email or leave a comment below.

Here’s the most recent picture of me.
At the Behance office. A little hungover.
Taken on July 3rd and 3:45 PM.
Let’s see if I look healthier on August 1st.

Wish me luck!

I’ve been out of service for the past week because of Mardi Gras. I’m still recovering. Too many parades, beads, floats and drinks! I’ll be out of service for the next two weeks as I’ll be moving from New Orleans to NYC.

Today is my last day in New Orleans. Also the day that Barack Obama is in town. Yes, I am liberal. Actually very liberal. And yes, I really like this video…

It was a creed written into the founding documents that declared the destiny of a nation.Yes we can.

It was whispered by slaves and abolitionists as they blazed a trail toward freedom.

Yes we can.

It was sung by immigrants as they struck out from distant shores and pioneers who pushed westward against an unforgiving wilderness.

Yes we can.

It was the call of workers who organized; women who reached for the ballots; a President who chose the moon as our new frontier; and a King who took us to the mountaintop and pointed the way to the Promised Land.

Yes we can to justice and equality.

Yes we can to opportunity and prosperity.

Yes we can heal this nation.

Yes we can repair this world.

Yes we can.

We know the battle ahead will be long, but always remember that no matter what obstacles stand in our way, nothing can stand in the way of the power of millions of voices calling for change.

We have been told we cannot do this by a chorus of cynics…they will only grow louder and more dissonant ……….. We’ve been asked to pause for a reality check. We’ve been warned against offering the people of this nation false hope.

But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope.

Now the hopes of the little girl who goes to a crumbling school in Dillon are the same as the dreams of the boy who learns on the streets of LA; we will remember that there is something happening in America; that we are not as divided as our politics suggests; that we are one people; we are one nation; and together, we will begin the next great chapter in the American story with three words that will ring from coast to coast; from sea to shining sea –

Yes. We. Can.

Adrian has challenged Seth and I to a Nike Plus showdown. Even though I’ve been running for 10+ years now, I have never been quite the distance runner. I used to run cross-country and track through high school. I think our 4×800 relay team had the fastest time in the nation at one point. But, I’ve never been the distance runner. I think my fastest time ever for the 5K was 17:57 (when I was 17) so to see Adrian’s time of 25:14 for 4 miles is quite an impressive feat. I ran a 2 mile race a couple of months ago and came in around 12:50 but that was me peaking and almost passing out at the finish line (try running in 90+ degree humid heat in New Orleans).

I’m up for a challenge. Maybe a combination of the fastest run and most miles? Since Adrian tore his calf muscle, we’re looking to start the challenge on the week of February 10th. If you’re up for a challenge, leave your Nike+ screename below..
